ABOUT

Genevieve "Evie" O’Driscoll is an accomplished and versatile bassist, at home in many styles of jazz and improvised music, and active within the UK and German jazz scenes. Genevieve studied cello at Goldsmiths College, University of London, where she developed an interest in jazz and improvised music, through working with jazz violinist Julian Ferraretto. After become involved in ‘Tomorrows Warriors’ jazz education and artist development program, and meeting mentor british bassist Gary Crosby, she switched her focus to double bass. She was quickly offered a place to study jazz bass at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, where she received the Kenneth May Scholarship and the Hilde Martindale Scholarship to support her studies. She relocated to Germany at the end of 2019, continuing her studies at Folkwang Universität der Künste, where she received the Deutschlandstipendium and Leistungsstipendium. Despite the challenge of moving to a new country shortly before a global pandemic, Genevieve rapidly integrated herself into the jazz scene and is now an in-demand sidewoman, playing with various groups and ensemble in NRW (North Rhine Westphalia) and further afield. Genevieve also leads her own project, chordless quintet ‘New Monastery’, focused around explorations and reinventions of the music of Andrew Hill. Genevieve is an enthusiastic music educator. She taught on the groundbreaking Music Masters program in London, which aims to widen access to high-quality music education, and currently teaches at the Städtische Musikschule Herne. Some career highlights include: festival appearances at Cheltenham Jazz Festival (UK), Meltdown Festival (UK) London Jazz Festival, Stadtgarten Winter Jazz (DE); German tour and live radio concert for Deutschlandfunk with Merlin Hellenkamp&Friends; playing as part of Paul Lüpfert’s Folkwang-Prize-winning quintet ‘Lüpftet’; theater productions in Düsseldorf Schauspielhaus, Schosspark Theater Berlin, Kammertheater Karlsruhe, Musiktheater im Revier The Old Vic, London, The Lyric Theater, London; sessions at various London studios including Abbey Road Studios, Strongroom Studios, and Angel Studios; Concerts at venues including the Barbican, Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Shepherds Bush Empire, Union Chapel, Ronnie Scotts.
